STATEMENT

My name is Lorena Pagkalou and I am a new artist based on Chania, Crete, Greece. I graduated from AKTO college with a degree on Fine Arts and New Media. The medium I use is painting with acrylic and oil paints. My inspiration comes from the mind-blowing experience that is called life and the everyday struggle of being in your 20s and try to find out who you are and what is your place in this world, while growing up and becoming an adult. In my work I try to bring to life my everyday problems and thoughts, like my smoking addiction and my panic attacks. Making art is the best way for me to express my emotions and understand them. I always like to include a happy note by the use of bright colors and playful details because life is also full of beauty and happy moments. The message I want to share through my work is that no matter what someone is going through there is always a silver lining and you are not alone. Sometimes you just got to paint yourself as a mermaid and everything is going to be okay!
